Who am i and why am i doing this?

General Bio:

My name is Nick Sommers, I’m currently 21 years old studying PPE (Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics) and Global Health at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

At my college I’ve participated in College Mentors for Kids, Varsity Swimming, DJ club, and the outdoors club. I also currently work at a mental hospital serving an inmate and adolescent population. My career goal is to become either a malpractice attorney or a criminal defense attorney. This summer I’ll be fulfilling another commitment by interning for Jim Baird, one of the Indiana house representatives

Triathlon and Multisport Background:

My time in Multisport started young as a competitive swimmer. I began swimming at 8 years old and have continued to up until now. I have 13 years of swimming expertise among different coaches, programs, and schools. However, when I turned 17, I wanted something more, I wanted to “BE AN IRONMAN!!” My parents had told me since I was a kid that i could only get one of two tattoos; the ironman or the Olympic rings. and at 17, i was pretty sure there’d be no Olympic rings.

But under that is a huge emphasis on character building and mental health. I’ve struggled a lot in my life and find triathlon to be one of the greatest escapes on earth. Just you, the road, your plan, and your execution. It’s honestly beautiful and such a clear example of the grit a person has.

I’ve completed 4 Full Ironman finishes at Ironman Arizona (2022), Ironman Wisconsin (2024), Ironman Lake Placid (2025), and Ironman Maryland (2025). My current top Ironman finish was at Lake Placid with a swim time of 53:06, Bike time of 5:35:28, and a run time of 3:37:16. totaling out to be 10:46:10.

I’ve also done 7 Ironman 70.3 races: Local Half in Illinois (2022), Muncie x2 (2022, 2023), Ohio x2 (2023,2024), Louisville (2024), and Rockford (2025). Among these finishes are three world championship qualifications and multiple 18-24 y/o podium finishes. My current PR is at Ironman 70.3 Ohio in 2024 where I swam a 27:35, cycled a 2:23:48, and ran a strong 1:36:34 in the blistering Ohio summer heat. All of these, including transitions shook out to be a time of 4:31:34.

I also am a coach for my triathlon team, Tri-Loco. We’re based in Indianapolis and Louisville, but we're trying to expand to more cities and states! For more information contact me Via the Contact tab. Also check out the Youtube Channel (Dropping soon… Sorry).

My General Goal for This site:

My goal is to give an unbiased and realistic perspective on what it looks like to be a successful and engaged college student while also being a competitive triathlete. Juggling these two identities is challenging, and I believe that I can provide roadmaps for those looking for practical knowledge.

I also want to use my expertise with swimming to coach you! I’m taking on clients to analyze stroke mechanics and provide triathlon-specific swimming workouts with video explanations. I will also offer 1:1 clinics at local facilities and consultations via video chat. My goal is to help you get better efficiently and safely. Feel free to ask me anything too. I’m an open book to any conversation.
